Glow in dark ink (also called photoluminescent or luminous ink) is a specialty printing material that absorbs light energy and gradually releases it as visible illumination in darkness. It creates self-illuminating effects without electricity or batteries.

How It Works

Photoluminescent materials contain phosphors (typically strontium aluminate) that absorb photons from light sources. These photons excite electrons to higher energy states. When the light source is removed, electrons slowly return to their ground state, emitting stored energy as visible light. This process is called persistent luminescence.

Modern glow in dark technology uses rare-earth doped strontium aluminate – it is non-toxic, brighter, and lasts much longer than traditional zinc sulfide formulations.
